Title

Priority Issue: Childcare for Working Families

Body

Goal: To encourage access to affordable, high quality child care to enable families to be gainfully employed, thereby creating a more reliable workforce and enhanced quality of life.

  • Expand and update the stakeholders list.
  • Conduct updated stakeholders meeting.
  • Establish caregiver training. schedule for 2007-2008.

Availability of quality childcare for working families was ranked low in the e-Synchronist business interviews conducted by the Front Line Team. To remain competitive, businesses need high-achieving employees. Employers whose workers are experiencing difficulties navigating life because of the insecurity of their family members see the spillover in the workplace.

The result is lost days, declining work quality and rapid turnover. SOIC believes that improving the options for childcare will enhance opportunities for business expansion and growth and raise the standard of living for families in southwest Oklahoma.
